We will start the meeting with some time to get to know you and your latest Middle-earth adventures. Perhaps you have an interesting mathom to share?
Then we will have a fascinating presentation on “Feigned history: the crossroads of Tolkien-as-scholar’ and ‘Tolkien-as-world-builder’.” In this presentation we will explore some of the different stories of manuscript history - from the memoirs of Bilbo and Frodo to the scholarship of Pengolodh of Gondolin - that Tolkien developed for his Legendarium to give it an aura of historical works, based on ancient and modern scholarship, and written by particular people at particular times.
